Andre Gasiorowski: Awarded with Medal for Jewish WWII Fighters

70 years after the victory over the Nazis, hundreds of Jewish fighters have received a medal from the State of Israel.

Last night (Tuesday) special medal from Israel, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany. At a ceremony at Armored Corps Memorial Site and Museum at Latrun attended Jewish fighters, including partisans, ghetto fighters, soldiers in the armies (mostly from the Soviet Union) and community volunteers in the British army. The participants represented a million and a half Jews who fought the Nazis as part of different nations, including about 500 thousand Jews in the Soviet Union, and 40 thousand fighters who came from Israel. Oldest recipient of  medal was Benzion Solomin, two months ago celebrated the 102 birthday. Solomin, a resident of Afula, was born in Latvia, was wounded in the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, immigrated to Israel in 1934, and joined the British Army.
