Humanitarian Aid for Gaza and the Story Behind an Operation “Arnon” Hero

Andre Gasiorowski appeared on the Israeli investigative program “HaMakor” on Channel 13, in an episode examining the case of a Shin Bet operative who took part in Operation “Arnon” and later became the focus of an investigation concerning smuggling into the Gaza Strip.

In the program broadcast on September 30, 2026, Gąsiorowski discussed smuggling mechanisms and their motives, known cases, and attempts to illegally transport goods into Gaza. He also addressed the issue from the perspective of the risks encountered while organizing legal and controlled humanitarian shipments.

He drew on practical experience gained through humanitarian operations conducted by Global Aid Network (GAiN) and the Time of Freedom Foundation.

In June 2024, four Israeli hostages — Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv — were rescued during Operation “Arnon” in Nuseirat. Yamam officer Arnon Zamora was killed during the operation, which was subsequently named in his honor.

Channel 13 presented the story of a Shin Bet operative who participated in the operation and later became the focus of proceedings concerning the smuggling of goods into Gaza.

According to allegations by Israeli law-enforcement authorities, access connected with his service and military infrastructure was allegedly used to facilitate the illegal transportation of goods. The case remains the subject of legal proceedings — the allegations do not constitute a final determination of guilt.

The Channel 13 report examined the mechanisms and financial motives associated with smuggling goods into the Gaza Strip.

Humanitarian Aid in a High-Risk Environment

In the interview, Gasiorowski emphasized that organizing legitimate humanitarian aid for Gaza takes place in an exceptionally challenging environment. Smuggling attempts and efforts to exploit legitimate movements of goods represent risks that must be taken into account when preparing and carrying out humanitarian shipments.

Legal humanitarian aid therefore involves much more than transporting goods to the border. It requires an entire process involving verification of cargo and documentation, the necessary approvals, inspections, coordination of transport, and safeguards designed to protect operations against possible abuse.

Operational data illustrate the scale of the activities Gasiorowski discussed. Over a two-month period, the separate operations of GAiN and the Time of Freedom Foundation resulted in the delivery to the Gaza Strip of a combined 331 trucks, 7,552 pallets, and more than 5,275 metric tons (over 5 million kg) of humanitarian aid.

This represents more than 5,275 metric tons of humanitarian assistance. The total consists of 141 GAiN trucks and 190 Time of Freedom Foundation trucks.

One Border — Two Realities

The “HaMakor” report highlights the contrast between attempts to circumvent the system and legitimate humanitarian transportation, which must operate in an environment where precisely these kinds of risks exist.

Andre Gasiorowski’s contribution presented the issue from the perspective of practical experience — how to conduct large-scale, legal and controlled humanitarian assistance for Gaza while at the same time identifying the risks, mechanisms of abuse, and smuggling attempts that may arise around such operations.
